Meryl Ainslie makes sketchbooks of drawings and silver in response to journeys and experiences. The silver pieces are three-dimensional drawings, inseparable from the sketchbooks and often created in the same breath.

Each piece of silver is made from a small mould, formed directly on location. These give rise to collections of silver jewellery. The accompanying sketchbooks are codices of memory, exploring connections and ideas.

“The sketchbook and jewellery travel with you, resting in the hand or on the body. Each is both intimate and tactile. I want to make something beautiful and precious out of the ordinary or overlooked and to give the owner an experience of the places that have inspired me.”
